Formation of a scaffold using 3D printing technology has attracted much attention because it is capable of forming an arbitrary shaped object. In most cases, however, raw materials for 3D printing are polymers, such as polylactic acid (PLA). Since most of polymers including PLA have hydrophobic characteristics, hydrophilic treatments are necessary before the scaffold is embedded in a bone defect. At present, the treatment with NaOH aqueous solution has been widely used for improving hydrophilicity of inner walls in 3D-printed scaffolds. However, it takes very long time of several hours. Plasma-bullet-transfer treatments can reduce this process time down to 5 min.
