It is difficult to investigate the surface structural analysis of the wide band-gap insulator materials using conventional electron or charged ions due to charge-up of surfaces. Therefore, we utilized a low-energy atom scattering spectroscopy system for the analysis of insulator surface of CoO. Low-energy atom beams were produced using neutral and 100 kHz pulsed 3 keV-4He0 beams. The objective of this study is to clarify the top most atomic layer of CoO(111) and find the difference between the surface and the bulk structures.
