[10p-N207-12] The Origin of Surface Pressure of Phospholipid-Coated Oil–Water Interfaces

Keywords:phospholipids, monolayers, oil/water interfaces

Phospholipid monolayers formed at oil–water interfaces have been used to mimic biological membranes. However, the properties of these phospholipid monolayers have not been quantitatively understood. In this study, we developed the method to determine the relationship between the interfacial tension and the area per lipid molecule. The results obtained via this method reveal the origin of surface pressure at the phospholipid-coated oil–water interface.
