To realize compact 1.3-µm band SiN-based MUX/DEMUX compared with conventional arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), conventional hand-tuning approach is inefficient and limits the designer to a small library of known devices. To this end, consider a machine learning algorithm based inverse design method. As an intermediate result, 400-GHz wavelength spacing and 4-wavelength DEMUX with 13 µm × 8 µm footprint shows the transmittance of ~75.8% and the crosstalk of ~-9.5 dB.
