非晶質状態のIV族材料薄膜（Si，Ge，C等）の固相成長において、金属薄膜を触媒として利用することで、結晶化に必要な活性化エネルギーを大きく低減することができる。本現象を活用した「金属誘起成長法」について、反応様態に応じて整理する。特に、金属とIV族材料の「層交換現象」について、そのメカニズムから最近のデバイス応用研究までを包括的に紹介する。
