In this study, we found that 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(methylthio)pyrene (MT-pyrene), a known compound with no report of the crystal structure, crystallizes into a new type of two-dimensional π-stack structure, in contrast to the dimeric herringbone structure of the parent pyrene. The single-crystal MT-pyrene OFETs fabricated by physical vapor transport method showed almost ideal device characteristics when driven at low voltages under atmospheric conditions, extremely high mobility (32 cm2 V-1 s-1, on average), band transport, and very low trap density. It was shown that MT-pyrene is an excellent semiconductor material for single-crystal OFETs.
