The assemblies formed by colloidal systems such as inorganic nanosheets or organic moieties showing liquid crystalline (LC) organization can lead to the formation of new edifices or hierarchical architectures that are not possible to be obtained in bulk systems. In this study, an octaetyylene glycol monododecyl ether (C12E8) nonionic surfactant aqueous solution and different types of graphene oxide (GO) showing short and large lateral sizes were associated. The phase diagrams of the colloidal mixtures were studied by a set of complementary techniques (small-angle X-ray scattering, polarized optical microscopy) and revealed no changes of the C12E8-H2O in the presence of short GO. In contrast, by associating large GO, the excluded volume effects considerably affect the phase diagram, where the aniotropic nanosheets restrain the accessibility to water for the surfactant, leading to a reorganization of the C12E8 phases at lower concentration that the bulk C12E8-H2O system.
