Most of the clathrate thermoelectric materials are n-type, and the development of p-type materials is an important issue. In this study, Ba8Au6Ge40 was prepared as a search for p-type clathrate, and its thermoelectric properties were evaluated. As a result, the Seebeck coefficient, the electrical conductivity, and the power factor of Ba8Au6Ge40 at 900 K were 133 μV/K, 823 S/cm, and 14.6 μW/(cmK2), respectively. In the high-temperature region, Ba8Au6Ge40 showed higher power factor values than the p-type Ba8Au5.3Ge40.7 of the previous study.
