The pn-type control and thermoelectric properties of carbon nanotubes synthesized by the super-growth method (SG-CNTs) were investigated as a function of gate voltage, corresponding to carrier doping level, by an electric double-layer transistor (EDLT) technique with ionic liquids, to evaluate SG-CNTs as thermoelectric materials. The results showed that the carrier injection of both electrons and holes into SG-CNTs was successfully controlled by changing the gate voltage and that the power factor of SG-CNTs was enhanced by carrier doping.
