[17p-Z20-1] Short-time growth of large REBCO melt-textured bulks using single-direction melt growth
Keywords:REBCO melt-textured bulk, Cuprate high temperature superconductor, single direction melt growth
Although it is effective to enlarge bulk size for improvement of trapped field properties, the time required for crystal growth increases significantly with an increase in bulk diameter because inhomogeneous nucleation due to increased supersaturation. We have developed the Single-Direction Melt Growth (SDMG) method, in which melt-textured bulks are grown on a seed plate cut out from large melt-textured bulks by utilizing the difference in peritectic temperatures of REBCO with different rare-earth elements. In this method, the crystal growth proceeds only in the vertical direction, which enables the growth of bulk crystals in a short time regardless of the bulk diameter. In the present study, we have attempted to grow large-sized melt-textured bulks in a short time using single or multiple sintered pellets using the SDMG method.
