Free-hand measurement, which enables one to identify odors simply by holding a sensor chip near a sample, has a great potential for realizing mobile olfactory sensors. In this study, we have developed a compact measurement device equipped with a membrane-type surface stress sensor (MSS) chip and optimized the odor sensing protocol and the data analysis method for the sensing signals.
