Dinitrogen pentoxide (N2O5) is expected to have a wide range of applications in biotechnology and other fields due to its unique oxidizing and nitrating properties. But due to the difficulties of its production by conventional methods, it has not yet studied on its effects on living organisms, including humans. In this study, we report the action mechanism of plasma-generated N2O5 on living organisms using several mutants of Schizosaccharomyces pombe, which have a rapid cell cycle and can easily undergo gene editing.
