[21a-A205-9] Design of Compact and Low-loss 2×2 coupler based on CMA-ES

Recently, programmable photonic integrated circuits (PICs) based on Si photonics have been the focus of much research. In order to scale up the most widely used Clements-type PIC, it is necessary to improve the performance of the 2×2 coupler, which is a component of the circuit. In this study, by applying the CMA-ES algorithm to the design of a 2×2 coupler, we have successfully designed a compact, low-loss, fabrication tolerant, and thermally stable 2×2 coupler.
