Keywords:photonic crystal

We have devised a structure in which a gradual spatial structural change is applied to the lattice points of a photonic crystal (PC), a distorted PC, and have reported that in this structure, light waves are curved due to the distortion effect. In this study, we defined softness as an evaluation value of the distortion effect. The dependence of softness on the filling factor (the ratio of lattice point to the unit lattice) was checked for two distorted PCs with equivalent distortion effects, and similar changes were observed, hence confirming the validity of softness.
