(Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy [Bi2223] tapes, which have practical high critical current properties for a wide range of applications, have been mass-produced as DI-BSCCO®. However, due to the large electromagnetic anisotropy of Bi2223, high field applications of Bi2223 are limited to low temperature regions. It is known that substitution of lead(Pb) for the bismuth(Bi)-site of Bi-based superconductors are effective for improving critical current properties in magnetic field because of a decrease in electromagnetic anisotropy.
