We discuss the coupling between phonons and electron spins. Studies have shown that the phonon angular momentum and lattice motion induce Berry curvature can influence the dynamics of electron spins. Spin orbit interaction is also expected to play a significant role in phonon-spin coupling. Results from experiments aimed to develop systems with strong phonon-spin coupling will be discussed.
