[21p-P02-1] Theoretical calculation of polarization color using an index ellipsoid

Keywords:polarizer, polarization color

At Lake Kussharo, when photographing thin ice on the lake surface through a polarizing filter, a phenomenon was discovered in which small bubbles under the thin ice appeared to be various colors. Since this phenomenon was observed only through polarizing filters, it is thought to be due to polarization color. Evaluation of the ice in Lake Kussharo revealed that the crystal axis is slightly inclined from the perpendicular direction to the lake surface. In this study, by using refractive index ellipsoids in our calculations, we performed theoretical calculations of polarization color when the ice crystal axis is inclined.
