We have shown that NHoM structures consisting of randomly formed silver nano-hemispheres on a specular substrate with a spacer layer can be applied as a highly sensitive colorimetric biosensor that can visually detect changes in color. In the present study, we report on the fabrication of NDoM structures consisting of a regular array of silver disks of uniform shape and size on a specular substrate using electron beam lithography, and on the demonstration of improved sensor performance by controlling the plasmonic color in the visible wavelength region, both computationally and experimentally.
