[22a-E301-1] Introduction : Attractive ternary and multinary compounds

〇Takahiro Wada1 (1.Ryukoku. Univ.)

Keywords:ternary and multinary compounds, chalcopyrite, kesterite

Using multi-element system is one of the powerful approach to materials development. Through the application of group I-Ⅲ-VI2 compounds to thin film solar cells, we understood that chalcopyrite-type compounds had electronic structures different from those of group III-V and group II-VI semiconductors, and had unique physical properties. We also found as solar cell materials, kesterite typeⅠ2-Ⅱ-Ⅳ-Ⅵ4 compounds such as Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) and Ⅰ2-Ⅳ-Ⅵ3 compounds such as Cu2SnS3. In the spirit of "More is different", we hope that the knowledge and technology obtained in the development of polycrystalline solar cells will be applied to new application fields and contribute to the breakthrough.
