[22a-E301-4] Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting by Multinary Compound-Based Thin-Films

Keywords:photoelectrodes, water splitting, solar hydrogen

Photoelectrochemical water splitting reaction using a visible-light-responsive semiconductor-based photoelectrodes have been extensively investigated. Among them, a PEC cell with a tandem configuration that has a stacked structure with a visible-light-absorbing semitransparent photoanode and a photocathode having a narrower band gap is expected to be a promising candidate to achieve the high-level of solar-to-hydrogen (STH) energy conversion efficiency. In the present study, a tandem cell was constructed using a two-series connected CuInSe2 terminated with Pt/Ni electrocatalyst (Pt/Ni/dual-CIS) cathode for hydrogen production and a NiFeOx electrocatalyst loaded-Ta3N5 anode for oxygen production. Overall water splitting reaction using the tandem PEC cell under simulated sunlight illumination will be demonstrated.
