Recently, our group has been studying BiVO4, which shows high conversion efficiency as an oxygen-evolving electrode in a two-step excitation (Z-scheme) photoelectrode system, and has been characterizing the properties using solar cell evaluation methods. As a result, it was found that a sort of solar cell evaluation methods can be utilized, such as the correlation between fluorescence lifetime and reaction efficiency, and the estimation of theoretical lifetime. This suggests that surface chemistry must be evaluated separately from photocarrier transport, and that modification of the bulk property has a significant impact on its reaction efficiency.
