Liquid crystals (LC) with large anisotropy even in the terahertz (THz) wave region can be expected for THz applications such as variable phase shifters . However, the THz wave phase shifters require LC layer thickness of several hundreds of micrometers, which results in a fatal problem for a very long decay time that increases according to the quadratic dependence on the thickness. On the other hand, nanofiber (NF)/LC composite is well known as an effective method for improvement. However, the reduction in the composite anisotropy makes the phase change smaller compared to the similar device with pure LC. In this study, we attempt to optimize the composite using microfiber, which is thicker than NF and has a diameter of about 1 to several micrometers.
