Photonic crystal (PhC) is a dielectric material with a nanoscale periodic refractive index distribution. We have successfully applied the TiO2 PhC to a sensor that can be measured with a simple optical set up and a visible region light source. However, the existing PhC sensors detect from the amount of wavelength shift, and the response mechanism needed to be improved for further sensitivity. In this study, based on the idea of combining luminescent material and PhC, we fabricated Quantum dots / TiO2 hybrid PhC and applied to a sensor that can be determined fg/ml order of protein adsorption.
