Direct solar steam generators (DSSGs) have attracted much attention because they can achieve nearly 100 % photothermal conversion efficiency without using fossil energy compared to conventional evaporation desalination technologies. Furthermore, it has been reported that the addition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to the DSSG material could improve the evaporation performance. In this study, we synthesized PVA/carbon/chitosan aerogel and applied it to DSSG to improve the evaporation performance.
