Carbon nitride (CN), a layered structure of thermally condensed melamine, has been attracting attention as a new material because of its photocatalytic properties. CN films synthesized by vapor deposition using melamine as a source material show highly crystalline CN with an oriented growth, which was not possible with powder. We discuss the energy electronic states of CN thin films from their electrical conduction and optical characteristics.
