[24a-E307-1] Refractive index inhomogeneity in polymer optical fiber made by copolymerization

Keywords:Polymer optical fiber, Zero birefringence polymer, Partial mode excitation

Zero-Birefringent copolymer was used as a core material of a polymer optical fiber (POF). Power distribution of output light from the POF was analyzed using differential mode excitation using polarized light. As a result, it was suggested that the copolymer composition was not uniform throughout the core. Distribution of refractive index was measured using interferometric microscopy. As a result, significant inhomogeneity was confirmed in the copolymer POF.
