Solar cells have been paid for great attention as a kind of smart green energy device. Photon energy in ultraviolet (UV) range accounts for 4.62% of total solar energy, and its utilization is expected to improve the solar conversation efficiency. Thus, the development of luminescent down-shifting (LDS) films, which can convert higher-energy UV photons into lower-energy photons, are focused to be equipped on solar cells. Inorganic phosphor films have high stability for irradiation of sunlight and suitable for the LDS materials. Among the inorganic phosphors, Eu2+-doped oxynitride materials are known to absorb UV light and exhibit a broad emission. In this study, Eu2+-doped oxynitride glass films were prepared via the sol-gel process and their luminescent properties were investigated.
