[25p-P08-2] Orientation analysis of eyelid collagen fiber by use of the polarization-resolved SHG microscopy
Keywords:collagen, SHG, second harmonic generation
The skin around the eyes differs from other parts of the body in that the muscles covering the entire periphery of the eyes (orbicularis oculi) are placed directly under the skin and are very thin to accommodate smooth movements around the eyes. It is also characterized by the fact that the skin itself deforms and undergoes shape changes such as wrinkles due to the mechanical load brought about repeatedly. While fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes and deep wrinkles at the corners of the eyes are well known to occur with aging, it has been unclear how the tissue inside the skin changes. In this study, we focused on dermal collagen, the main component of the skin, and analyzed the structural changes of collagen fibers in the tissue around the eyes using SHG (second harmonic generation) microscopy.
