In polarization gratings formed using a biaxial anisotropic material, it has been theoretically demonstrated that the incident angle dependence of the diffraction properties can be significantly reduced by designing the biaxial anisotropic shape of the material. The incident angle dependences of the diffraction efficiency and the polarization ellipticity of diffracted light were calculated by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. In addition to the average refractive index and the magnitude of anisotropy at the normal incident, the Nz coefficient that can quantify the biaxial anisotropy was used as a calculation parameter.
