We have proposed ferroelectric data storage using scanning nonlinear dielectric constant microscopy (SNDM). We have confirmed extremely high recording density and high-speed writing characteristics using LiTaO3 crystal media. However, since the principle of reading is based on the detection of very small nonlinear dielectric constants, the playback speed is slow, which is a major problem. To solve this problem, we propose a new technology called Heat Assisted Ferroelectric Reading (HAFeR), which can both increase the reading speed and maintain the retention characteristics.
