We think that an understanding of the dynamic structural changes of downy hairs and surrounding tissues accompanying the hair cycle will lead to an understanding of skin physiology and pathology. For that purpose, it is necessary to observe the shape of the downy hairs deep inside the skin. However, the method to visualize the shape of downy hairs in the deep layers has not been established. In this study, we report on the basic study on visualization of downy hairs by photoacoustic imaging, which enables high-contrast observation of deep tissues.
