[15p-B508-7] Control of electronic states by mechanical stretching of single molecular junctions

Keywords:single-molecule junction, break junction, electronic state

Single-molecule junctions were fabricated by the break junction method, and distance-resolved current-voltage characteristics were measured during the junction elongation process. The analysis of the current-voltage characteristics based on the resonant level model elucidated the mechanical response of the molecular orbital energy. It was found that the molecular orbital energy can be modulated by junction elongation with a change rate of about 1 eV/nm. This study is considered to be one of the mechanical approaches to precisely tune the electronic state of single-molecule junctions on a single-molecule scale.
