Keywords:photothermal heating, optical absorption, thermal conductivity

In photothermal heating with subwavelength structures, not only absorption but also effective thermal conductivity is important to efficiently increase the irradiated surface temperature. In the current talk, we demonstrate experimentally and numerically that decreasing the effective thermal conductivity with high aspect ratio nanostructure is quite effective in increasing the irradiated surface temperature by photothermal heating. The high aspect ratio nanostructures studied in the current work include pillar and hole arrays made of silicon, tube array and trench made of titanium nitride, and porous alumina.
