Keywords:caffeic acid, work function, organic devices

In this study, we applied caffeic acid (CfA) to an electrode modifier for organic devices with superior sustainability. It was found that the adsorption of CfA increased electrodes' work function by ~0.5 eV, independent of their types. Since the catechol group in CfA preferentially interacts with metal surfaces, the dipole layer is formed at the electrode interfaces, leading to the work function increase. We will also report the giant surface potential by a polar phytochemical in the presentation.
