When precious metal nanostructures are irradiated with light, an enhanced electric field is formed on the metal surface due to localized surface plasmon resonance. This enhanced electric field produces a large Raman signal from the adsorbed/bonded molecules on the nanostructure surface (surface-enhanced Raman scattering: SERS). On the other hand, the adsorbed/bound molecules are oxidized/reduced and the molecular structure is changed. In this study, the chemical reactions of the target molecules in the SERS measurements were suppressed by coating the entire silver tre-like structure with a silica thin film using a wet process.
