We discuss millimeter wave transmittance properties of liquid crystal (LC) cells with orthogonally-combined wire grid electrodes to realize electrically controllable LC millimeter wave devices. As a result of an FDTD (finite difference time domain) investigation, we found that the millimeter wave transmittance varies in response to the permittivity change in an LC layer (operation area).
