[17p-A410-4] Ultrasound creates tactile sensations in midair

Hiroyuki Shinoda1 (1.Univ. of Tokyo)

Keywords:midair haptics, airborne ultrasound tactile display, haptic reproduction

Haptic reproduction technology using airborne ultrasound is advancing. Tactile sensations are presented by controlling physical effects such as radiation pressure, acoustic flow, and vaporization enhancement caused by intense airborne ultrasound. Ultrasonic wavefronts are generated while measuring reflected waves and produce a wide variety of tactile sensations by utilizing the perceptual characteristics of the sense of touch. Moreover, it is possible to create tactile sensations in a non-contact manner without touching any object. In this presentation, the current status of such tactile presentation technology and its applications centered on the Metaverse will be explained.
