Optical correlation-domain reflectometry (OCDR) is a technique for detecting defects in a fiber under test. Several derived OCDR configurations have been developed for downsizing or performance improvement. However, the theory of derived OCDR has not been developed, and the original theory has been applied to the derived OCDR. Hence, there are some inconsistencies between the theory and the experimental results. For example, the theoretical spatial resolution does not agree with the experimental value. In this work, we develop a comprehensive theory for both the original OCDR and derived OCDR configurations, and redefine the theoretical spatial resolution. In addition, we experimentally verify the validity of the modified theory and the redefined resolution.
