In recent years, much attention has been focused on structured light. In particular, basic research has been conducted on full Poincare beams (optical skyrmions) in which all polarization states on the Poincare sphere are projected onto the beam cross section. In this study, we report the development of an optical skyrmion generation method that can flexibly and easily control the topological charge, skyrmion number, and skyrmion structure in free space by using single-path self-referencing interferometry.
