[Objectives]This study aimed to compare the in vitro rumen fermentability and methane production of non-ensiled and ensiled TMR containing bran of Japanese or Indonesian rice varieties. [Method]Two types of TMR (JPN and IND) were prepared with a DM content of 51%. The TMR consisted of oats hay, flaked corn, soybean meal and rice bran produced in Japan (fat: 24%) or Indonesia (fat: 12%). The rice bran content in both TMR were fixed at 23%, while the compositions of other ingredients were adjusted to achieve equal CP (17%) and NDF (38%) contents in the TMR. For ensiling, a portion (500 g) of each TMR was sealed in plastic bags and fermented for 24 days. Undried samples of non-ensiled and ensiled TMR were used for in vitro batch incubation with cow’s rumen fluid. [Results] Production of total gas, methane and VFA, and dry matter digestibility were greater for IND than those for JPN. Although ensiling decreased total gas production for JPN, it did not affect methane production for both of TMR. These results indicate that IND has higher rumen fermentability and produce more methane than JPN. Ensiling the TMR had no effect on methane production, regardless of the types of rice bran.
