[CS12-23] XFEM simulation of rupture direction on strength-variated fault

Dynamic simulation is conducted for the current seismic design. It requires input ground motion which requires us to specify how faults rupture. There is a conventional assumption for rupture propagation for branching faults; rupture is directed towards branching from the main segment. On the other hand, a rupture propagation from a branching segment toward a main segment was observed during the mainshock of the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. To analyze rupture dynamics of branching fault, XFEM simulation is conducted.
