[VI-986] Applications of the Press-in Method : Z shaped steel sheet piles

Steel sheet piles are utilized worldwide for cofferdams and earth retaining walls. U shaped steel sheet piles (U piles) are standard in Japan, whilst Z shaped steel sheet piles (Z piles) as well as U piles are usually utilized in Western countries. This paper introduces the characteristics of Z piles and several applications of the Press-in Method by which Z piles were installed in the UK and the US. The fusion of Japanese piling technology and offshore construction technology enables us to supply high modulus retaining walls under very difficult working conditions, which should offer useful knowledge to Japanese civil engineers who will plan and/or conduct piling works in Japan and beyond.
