An Experimental Study on the Buckling Strength of Cold Press-Bent Box Stub-Column Made of SBHS700

Cold-formed structures are considered to prevent the rupture of welds at the bridge piers. However, cold-formed structures using high performance steel are rarely tested. The purpose is to investigate the buckling strength of a cold press-bent box-section made of SBHS700, in comparison to the welded box-section. The buckling modes were different, and the former test specimen reached higher strength. Both test specimens satisfied the ultimate strength curves, which indicated the possibility of using cold-formed steel structures made of SBHS700, which will be further investigated in detail.
