Keywords:wind-induced stability, cable with spiral protuberances, inclined cable, galloping, buffeting

Cable with 12 spiral protuberances and 27° winding angle is applied to control the rain-wind induced vibration and reduce drag force. However, several aerodynamic properties of this cable remain unknown. By conducting the wind-tunnel test and solving the equation of motion using quasi-steady theory, aerodynamic characteristics of the inclined cable with spiral protuberances were examined. The results show that lift force occurs when cable with spiral protuberances is inclined condition. Also, cable with spiral protuberances is stable against dry galloping and buffeting for cable-stayed bridges.
