[I-276] Numerical Analysis of Failure Process of reinforced Masonry Pier using refined DEM

At present, a lot of masonry piers built in Meiji era are still in service in Japan. However, it is known that masonry structure is weak to earthquakes. In this paper, the loading experiment of a masonry pier reinforced by steel plates was simulated by the refined DEM and the validity of the numerical method was confirmed. Then the seismic performance of an existing masonry pier and the effect of reinforcement by steel plates was investigated. It was confirmed that the degree of damage decreases when the masonry pier is reinforced.
