[VI-56] Consideration on small scale bridge replacement with river improvement

In this study, we report a case study of reducing the cost and simplifying maintenance of a small river bridge managed by a local government. As alternatives to the general bridge “PC simple slab girder bridge”, three alternatives, “RC cast in place box culvert”, “RC precast bevel gate culvert”, and “temporary bridge” were proposed, compared and examined. As a result, the most economical RC cast in place box culvert was adopted. This design had the following conditions: (1) small live load, (2) short span, (3) simultaneous construction with revetment, river management possible, and enough construction time. Therefore, RC box in place box culverts were used to reduce costs.
