[S02D-01] A study of connecting solid and beam elements with cross-sectional deformation
Keywords:shear lag, periodic boundary condition, finite element method, combined modeling
In structural analysis, it is more efficient to use both continuum and beam elements than to use only continuum elements because the degree of freedom is reduced. However, since the cross-sectional deformation is restricted at the connection point of continuum and beam elements due to the assumption that the cross-section remains plane, the accuracy of the analysis deteriorates. Therefore, we propose to solve this problem by employing beam elements which can consider the cross-sectional deformation. Numerical results show that the proposed method can improve the accuracy compared with the conventional method.
