This study presents the effect of material property variation on 2D-rockfall movement using the random field generation for input material properties: Young's modulus, E, kinetic friction coefficient, μf, coefficient of restitution, COR, and density, ρ. Three indexes are used to describe the rockfall movement: runout distance, max. kinetic energy, and max. jumping height. In order to evaluate the influence of each parameter, a sensitivity analysis is implemented by calculating the partial Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. It is found that COR and ρ has more influential effect on rockfall movement, which means that as COV or ρ changes, the jumping, the kinetic energy, and the runout of rock are driven to change significantly. However, μf and E are less influential parameters on rockfall movement because their partial Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients are almost 0. It is considered that the effect of material property variation of COR and ρ should be taken into account, while that of E and μf can be selectively considered.
