Engineering Education for a Time of Uncertainty: What Sorts of Engineers Should We Educate?

15:30~15:50
(1) What Engineering Education Should Aim for: The Prospects of Positive Education for Engineers
   Prof. Jun Fudano (Waseda University)
15:50~16:10
(2) Safety Education that Draws out Students' Autonomy - Significance and Practical Examples-
   Prof. Yoshio Katakura (Kansai University)
16:10~16:30 Q&A and Discussion

(2) The acquisition of new knowledge and convenience means the creation of new problems (sources of danger), and it is the responsibility of engineers and researchers to foresee such problems and propose effective countermeasures.
Therefore, the safety education in higher education should be not only teaching the existing rules but also cultivating the ability to foresee the danger and propose the rules.
As concrete examples, we will introduce examples of positive education, such as safety patrols that makes you feel energetic, exercises that make students think about safety measures from accident cases, and exercises that make students revise safety manuals from near-misses.
