[03心-口-04] A comparative study of personality traits of athletes and non-athletes of male intercollegiate students

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to compare the personality of athletes and non-athletes among male college students affiliated with the University of Mumbai. The researcher adopted the survey technique of descriptive research. A sample of fifty (50) male college students from various colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai were randomly selected as subjects for this study. Out of 50 students, 25 were athletes and 25 were non-athletes. The age of the concerned was between 18 to 25 years. Personality was measured by Eysenck's Personality Questionnaire-Revised Short-Scale (EPQ-R): The EPQ-R developed by Eysenck (1985) consists of 48 items and includes Psychoticism (P), Extraversion (E), Neuroticism (N), and Lie (L) categories of personality. Questionnaires were distributed among male athletes and non-athletes and asked to fill in correct answers. Mean, SD and t-test were used as statistical techniques for data analysis. No significant differences were found between athletes and non-athletes of male intercollegiate students.
